Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, located in Junagadh, Gujarat, India, is a state university that came into existence in 2015 under the Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University Act, 2015, enacted by the Government of Gujarat. The visionary idea for establishing this university was conceived by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and its foundation was laid by the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shrimati Anandiben Patel. The university started its journey with a provisional campus situated in the Government Polytechnic Building in Khadiya, located approximately 12 kilometers away from Junagadh city.Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, often referred to as BKNMU, serves as an academic and intellectual hub for the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The jurisdiction of this university extends over several districts, including Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, and Devbhumi Dwarka, where it plays a pivotal role in higher education and research. At its inception, the Government of Gujarat appointed Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Maiyani as the First Vice Chancellor of the University, providing strong leadership to guide the institution towards academic excellence. The university has been steadily expanding its academic offerings. Currently, it houses three Post Graduate departments in English, Sociology, and Life Science, with plans to introduce three more departments in Chemistry, Commerce, and History from June 2018. These departments provide students with the opportunity to pursue advanced studies and research in diverse fields. BKNMU has established affiliations with a network of educational institutions in the region, comprising 151 affiliated Government, grant-in-aid, and self-financed colleges, along with 48 Post-graduate centers. This extensive network caters to the educational needs of approximately 65,000 students across various disciplines, including Arts, Commerce & Management, Science, Law, Medicine, and more, at Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate levels. The university recognizes the importance of fostering a balanced student life. It encourages extracurricular activities through cultural clubs, sports facilities, and various events that promote talent, creativity, and holistic development. BKNMU actively assists students in accessing scholarships provided by Central and State Governments, ensuring financial support for those in need. While the university currently operates from a provisional campus, its commitment to providing quality education and fostering intellectual growth remains unwavering.
