Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research

Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was established in 1984 by Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan under the Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust. It was the first self-financing engineering college in Tamil Nadu. The trust later founded the Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1989, which was recognized as a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 2002. The college was then placed under the purview of the newly formed Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), which also brought other institutions, including BIST, under its ambit. Today, BIHER provides high-quality education to nearly 10,000 students from around the world. It operates across six campuses located in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, covering a sprawling area of 603 acres of land with 1.3 crore sq.ft buildings, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. The university offers a multi-stream, multi-cultural curriculum that includes undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
