About Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow

National Law School in Bangalore was established in 1987. This marked a turning point for the legal profession, as it shifted from being one of the least attractive career options to becoming one of the most sought-after fields. The concept of a national institution that would serve as a trailblazer and experimental ground for legal education reforms was presented to the Bar Council of India, recognizing their responsibility for maintaining standards in professional legal education under the Advocates Act. In line with this vision, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) was established by an Act of the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2005. The university officially came into existence on January 4, 2006, to address the emerging challenges in the legal field and build upon the foundation laid by the country's first National Law School. Initially known as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute, Uttar Pradesh, the word "Institute" was later replaced by "University" through an amendment in November 2006, giving the institution a comprehensive national character akin to other premier National Law Universities. RMLNLU receives generous grants from the State Government, enabling it to provide excellent infrastructure and a conducive learning environment. The university's core mission is to promote and disseminate knowledge of law and legal processes, nurturing a sense of responsibility among its students and research scholars to serve society in various legal capacities such as advocacy, judiciary, legislation, and other legal services. As we step into the 21st century, the practice of law needs to address the diverse and complex challenges faced by society. Lawyers must possess professional skills that can navigate the intricacies of globalization and the universalization of law, particularly in light of the presence of multinational corporations in India and around the world. Consequently, there is a pressing need to introduce reforms in legal education, a goal that Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University aims to achieve. The university's objectives encompass advancing legal knowledge and its role in national development, cultivating a sense of social responsibility among students and research scholars, and developing skills related to advocacy, judicial services, legislation, and law reforms. To fulfill these objectives, RMLNLU organizes lectures, seminars, symposia, and conferences that promote legal knowledge and make the law and legal processes efficient instruments for social progress. In conclusion, the establishment of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University represents a significant milestone in legal education. The university's commitment to excellence, focus on societal service, and aspiration to adapt to the changing legal landscape highlight its dedication to shaping competent legal professionals. Through its innovative approach to teaching and engagement, RMLNLU aims to equip its students with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the legal field and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of society.
