About Vector Control Research Centre, Puducherry

The ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC), a permanent institution run by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a branch of the Department of Health Research, Government of India, was founded in Pondicherry (now Puducherry) in July 1975. The main goal of the ICMR-VCRC is to investigate novel approaches and create efficient vector control tactics. With an emphasis on the development and application of cutting-edge methods to prevent vector-borne diseases, the ICMR-VCRC is actively engaged in both basic and applied research. The center works to offer useful insights into the management and control of vectors that spread diseases to people by carrying out rigorous scientific investigations. The study of vector biology and behavior, as well as the creation of preventive and control strategies, are all included in the research efforts on vector control. The World Health Organisation (WHO) designated the ICMR-VCRC as a collaborating center for research and training in lymphatic filariasis and integrated vector management in recognition of the center's substantial contributions to the field of vector-borne illnesses. This award, which was awarded to the Center on 15 May 1985, is aimed at highlighting its knowledge and a major contribution to advancing scientific understanding and capacity-building initiatives related to vector control. Additionally, in acknowledgment of ICMR-VCRC's proficiency in the field of health training, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, named it one of the institutes of excellence in India for health training courses. The ICMR-VCRC has established an excellent reputation for being a pioneering organization in the field of vector management and prevention of vectorborne diseases through its broad research, cooperation efforts as well as training initiatives. In order to protect public health from the threat of vector diseases, the Centre devotes a large part of its energies to improving scientific knowledge, guiding projects, informing policy decisions, and protecting public health..
