In New Delhi, the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) 2.0 Portal was introduced by Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan.
Young graduates and diploma holders have received stipends of Rs 100 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) as part of this project. These apprentices are getting on-the-job training in a variety of areas, such as manufacturing, IT/IT, and the automotive sector.
The NATS 2.0 portal's inauguration is a big step toward democratizing apprenticeship opportunities, closing skill gaps, and achieving young aspirations—all of which will help them get ready for their future employment.
The portal's dual purpose is to make it easier for a large number of beneficiaries to register and apply for apprenticeships and to handle contracts and openings for establishments and sectors.
With the help of this project, many recent graduates and diploma holders will be able to acquire employability skills and get a fixed monthly stipend.
Panel talks regarding apprenticeships in the future
Two-panel discussions at the event addressed the future of apprenticeships, covering subjects like the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Program, credits for all apprenticeships, cooperation between industry and higher education, and utilizing technology for DBT and bolstering e-governance.
Prominent academics, students, and dignitaries were present during these talks. Prominent corporations such as Infosys Ltd., Tech Mahindra Pvt. Ltd., and Cognizant Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd. were also acknowledged for their contributions.
The NATS 2.0 site facilitates the integration of general and vocational education to ensure students' vertical and horizontal mobility.
This is in line with NEP 2020, which intends to mainstream vocational education and remove obstacles between different streams of education.
In keeping with this integration endeavor, UGC and AICTE have released draft rules for Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programs (AEDP).
