Madras Dyslexia Association to organize 'Dyslexia Awareness Walk' on October 20, 2024. Every year the month is recognized for spreading awareness about dyslexia.

The Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA), is a non-profit organisation founded by parents of children with dyslexia. It is all set to organize a Dyslexia Awareness Walk on October 20,2024. It will be at Besant Nagar Beach situated in Chennai. The walk will begin from 7:00AM. The event is part of a series of initiatives which are hosted to commemorate ‘Dyslexia Awareness Month, which is recognized every October globally.

The purpose of the walk is to spread awareness about dyslexia and to educate parents, guardians’ schools and communities about the difficulties and potential of individuals with dyslexia.

The NGO, MDA was founded by D Chandrashekar . He is a first-generation entrepreneur and a BTech Graduate from IIT Madras. Chandrashekar has also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Madras in 2009. He has been a prominent figure in promoting dyslexia awareness and supporting the development of teaching methodologies that help children with dyslexia.

The walk is being organized in partnership with stakeholders, including the GOLD Parent Support Group, Rotary Club of Madras East, and Rotary Club of Besant Nagar.  Apart from the awareness walk, the awareness’ campaign includes competitions in storytelling, art from waste, dance, recitation and music, providing children with dyslexia a platform to display their creativity and talents.

Moreover, MDA has implemented a multipronged approach, it offers assessments, remedial teaching, teacher training and setting up the resource rooms in schools. These initiatives make sure the children with dyslexia get tools they need to thrive academically and socially.

The Dyslexia Awareness Walk is supported by several organisations, the list includes Sankalp - The Open School, Pragathi - The Alt School, Saveetha School of Law, and DG Vaishnav College Alpha to Omega Learning Centre, DLearners, V-Excel Educational Trust, Diks.

Overall, the initiative is well thought and aim to create awareness about dyslexia.
