“Rajasthan to Introduce MBBS Education in Hindi, Following MP and Chhattisgarh”
In addition to English, the Rajasthan government has stated that Hindi will also be used in state colleges to teach medical students. On September 14, which is Hindi Diwas, the announcement was made. Additionally, MBBS in Hindi has been announced by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The state of Rajasthan's two medical institutions, Sampurnanand Medical College of Jodhpur and Medical College of Barmer, which are both affiliated with the Marwar Medical University, will implement the new language gradually beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year.
Students are not required to pursue an MBBS in Hindi, according to Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department. The state budget included funding for the adoption of Hindi into medical education.
Concurrently, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai declared on Saturday that starting with the current academic session, the MBBS programme in the state will now be available in Hindi.
Sai stated that his government was pleased to carry out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal, which he had stated during an Uttar Pradesh rally in 2022, to offer medical education in Hindi.
"On Hindi Diwas, our government made a significant choice. There will now be Hindi instruction for the MBBS programme. Beginning with this session (2024–25), books in Hindi will be introduced in the first year. He informed local reporters, "The health department has been ordered to organize books and study materials.
The announcement by the Rajasthan government that MBBS courses will henceforth be given in Hindi in addition to English, beginning with the 2024–2025 academic session, is a significant step.
The move in Rajasthan follows a similar one in Chhattisgarh, where Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently announced that starting with the current academic year, MBBS courses would be taught in Hindi.
Sai emphasized that this change is in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of expanding access to medical education in regional languages, which he stated at a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.
