The National Overseas Scholarship is an Indian Scholarship provided by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, India. By providing equal educational opportunities to eligible candidates from underprivileged communities, the National Overseas Scholarship program plays a crucial role in developing human capital development and promoting social inclusion. The government hopes to enable people to flourish in their chosen sectors and make significant contributions to the advancement and development of the country.

Through this program, students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds will be able to study abroad in an accredited and recognized University.

- For female students, there are 30% of all National Overseas Scholarships available.

- The program pays for travel expenses, attendance fees, health insurance, and other incidentals.

 

Important Dates:

The NOS portal will open from 15th February 2024 for a period of 45 days i.e. till 31st March 2024 for submission of online application through the portal.

Candidates must fulfill the criteria given below:

 

Eligibility Criteria:

- Candidates should belong to the SC, ST, DNT, LAL, and OBC categories.

 

Education Qualification:

- For Masters: Minimum 55% or it's equivalent at the undergraduate level.

- For Doctorate: Minimum 55% or it's equivalent at the master’s level

Applicants must be aware that candidates with relevant experience will be given preference.

- Maximum Age Limit: Applicants must be below 35 years as of April 1, 2022.

- Maximum Permissible Income Limit: Total family income should not exceed 8,00,000 INR.

- Children Criteria: Only two children from the same parent can get the benefit of the National Overseas Scholarship.

Field of Study included in the National Overseas Scholarship Program:

- Engineering and Management (32 seats)

- Pure Sciences and Applied Sciences (17 seats)

- Agricultural Sciences and Medicine (17 seats)

- International Commerce Accounting and Finance (17 seats)

- Humanities and Social Sciences (17 seats)

 

Application Process:

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's official website will host the National Overseas Scholarship application starting the second week of February.

It is mandatory for students to submit in their completed application and all needed documentation by the deadline. All students need to send self-attested copies of the following paperwork, per the Ministry's requirements:

- Proof of Date of Birth

- All Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate along with mark sheets

- Income Certificate of Family

- Offer Letter College/ University

 

Selection Process:

- All applications received before the deadline shall be taken into account.

- Preference will be given to those who have already been admitted to universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and so on.

- On a conditional basis, students who have not yet been admitted to an International University will also be taken into consideration.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has implemented this scheme for the benefit of socially oppressed classes so that they can get the opportunity of studying abroad. Additionally, the program anticipates that, under normal circumstances, the students will return to India and work for the government for at least five years.
