Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is one of India's premier educational institutions with a rich history and legacy. Banaras Hindu University is an internationally reputed temple of learning situated in the holy city of Varanasi. This creative and innovative university was founded in 1916 by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, with the cooperation of great personalities like Dr. Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India. The University family consists of about 15000 students belonging to all streams of life, castes, religions, and races; about 1700 teachers; and nearly 8,000 non-teaching staff. A large number of students from foreign countries, like the U.S.A., the countries of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, etc., come to study here. BHU boasts a sprawling campus spread over 1,300 acres, housing three institutes, 14 faculties, over 140 departments, a high school, and an affiliated college. The campus also includes the famous Vishwanath Temple (Birla Temple) at its heart. BHU is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including vast libraries, advanced laboratories, hostels, cultural centers, and sports amenities. BHU offers a wide range of programs from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, spanning disciplines like arts, sciences, commerce, engineering, medicine, performing arts, law, agriculture, and social sciences, among others. Among its renowned institutions are the Institute of Medical Sciences (which has its own hospital), the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, and the Institute of Science.
